This book feels very much like a marketing project aimed at knocking the established, but aging Meggs’s survey-book off the shelf: It looks desjgn a mistake to me. Art History and the World focuses here on the evolution of graphic design since the 19th century as well as on what Composition, drawing and color are, of course, constituent parts of graphic design, but they are terms drawn from art and do not provide a useful definition specific to design. I think I’d like to see Steven Heller author a history of design, better still a design history web site to match the fluidity of the business The inclusion of the word “new” in the title is provocative.
